Course Agreement 2026/7

Welcome aboard! I’m looking forward to our journey together. Please read carefully through the following course agreement:

1. Joining the Course

Signing Up: Once you’ve completed the registration process, you should automatically receive an email linking you to your learning dashboard for the online course, and a calendar link for joining the first live module. Invitations to future modules will be sent subsequently – please save the dates.

Equipment needed: If you have a computer with internet access and a pair of headphones, you’re good to go. A phone or tablet will do at a pinch, but on live calls may limit your view of slides or fellow course participants.

Online etiquette: On live calls please mute to ensure minimum background noise. To preserve privacy please use headphones if there are others in your space who might overhear what course participants are saying. Please keep your camera mostly on as it’s great to connect visually with each other.

Participation: This course will deepen according to what you put into it. The workshops and online community are participative, and your sharing is deeply welcome but not obligatory.

2. Payment

Course Fee: The course fee is paid in six monthly subscription instalments taken automatically from your bank account starting on the day you enrolled. This is intended to spread the cost and make it more affordable, while preserving your commitment to pay the full fee and complete the course.

Refunds: I’ll do my best to accommodate you around unforeseen life events, but I can’t refund months/sessions you have already received. If illness or unforeseen circumstances prevent me from delivering a live workshop, we will reschedule by majority agreement.

3. Guiding principles

Confidentiality: We keep confidentiality for each other, and what is shared in the workshop stays in the workshop. You are of course welcome to share your own experience outside the course, but not other people’s.

Speak for ourselves: We try to speak from our own experience and use "I" statements rather than generalisations.

Listen from the heart: We listen deeply to understand with empathy.

Advice-free zone: We refrain from giving feedback/advice on what others share unless it is explicitly asked for.

Assume good intent: We treat everyone with kindness and respect, assume we are all doing our best with what we’ve been given.

Attendance: In live sessions, please try to attend punctually and stay for the whole session. Once you've attended one session, recordings will be available if you have to miss one.

4. Privacy & Copyright

Content: All the materials are created by Nick Thorpe with art by Jinty Smith. Please don’t copy or send them without asking. You are welcome to use them with full attribution to help others contending with midlife issues.

Your Data: I’m committed to ensuring that your personal data is secure, and kept on password-protected devices. I won’t share your info with anyone else unless I am compelled to by law.

Recordings: Recordings of sessions are for use by course participants only unless agreed in advance.

Anonymity: As a trainer/facilitator and writer, I may occasionally draw on stories/issues from our work together. In such instances I carefully disguise, fictionalise and blend any identifying details to ensure complete anonymity, or seek the explicit permission of the participant.

5. Our Shared Responsibility

I’ll do my best: I’ll do my best to provide a great course, but of course I can’t promise it’ll be perfect for everyone. Please let me know if there’s something you’d like to be different, and I’ll see if I can accommodate you.

Not therapy: I am not a therapist and this course is not group therapy. I will recommend you seek appropriate professional help if I feel I’m unqualified to hold space for what you need to explore.

Your Responsibility: You will not hold Nick or anyone else on the course responsible for any issues that surface as you explore midlife. By joining, you take responsibility for any choices you make and accept that only you can know for sure what is right for you in your life.
